Post Offices to Receive Funding Boost
Gower AM Edwina Hart has congratulated staff at West Cross and Llanmadoc post offices for their successful application to the Post Office Diversification Fund.
The Post Offices are two of 87 across Wales to be awarded part of approved grants of £849,658 to help sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses diversify and improve their facility.
The fund aims to help local post offices expand their businesses and provide new services for the community.
Edwina Hart said: “I am delighted that West Cross and Llanmadoc post offices are to benefit from this fund. Post Offices are at the heart of the community and are often a lifeline for vulnerable people.”
“This money will help us to keep Post Offices open by ensuring that sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses have sustainable and viable businesses, and I am delighted that so many Post Offices in Wales have been able to take advantage of the fund.”
Local Government and Communities Minister, Carl Sargeant, said:
“This fund has helped many local post offices across Wales develop new business services and sell goods which are not already provided in the local community.2
“Grants under the Post Office Diversification Fund have helped post offices across Wales become more sustainable through maintaining their current business whilst expanding into new product lines and services.”
Since making the first awards in July 2009, funds totalling £3.5 million have been paid out to 229 successful post offices across Wales – 182 of which have now completed the capital works funded.
