Oystermouth Castle Re-Opening

Gower AM Edwina Hart will be attending the re-opening of Oystermouth Castle this coming Saturday (16 July) following the completion of Phase 1 of improvements to the well- known Mumbles landmark.

The Welsh Government, through CADW, has provided £400,000 and £585,000 has been provided through the European Regional Development Fund

Edwina Hart said:-

“I am delighted that Oystermouth Castle has benefited under the Heritage Tourism project. The castle currently receives 5,000 visitors a year and it is hoped that the improved access and visitor facilities will see a substantial rise in visitors by 2014.’

A castle community co-ordinator will be appointed to manage a wide range of events, engage with community groups and ensure that Oystermouth Castle plays a full role in the city. Phase 2 will see improved access to Alina’s Chapel and the provision of a multi-functional space below the chapel.
