Making the Most of your Local Library
Gower Labour AM Edwina Hart has today welcomed the investment grant of around £72,000 for the refurbishment of Gowerton Library. The money is part of a £3.5million investment that the Welsh Assembly Government has committed to develop the Welsh library network in 2009 to 2010.
Edwina Hart A.M. said:
‘Gorseinon and Pontarddulais Libraries have already benefited from funding under the scheme and saw increased membership after the upgrades. Libraries are extremely important community facilities for all the family and I am delighted that Gowerton library is also going to receive a “makeover”.’
The Libraries for Life: Delivering a Modern Library Service for Users 2008-2011 development programme has been developed to respond to the need to further improve library services so that they can provide free access to cultural materials. The Libraries for Life Challenge Grant Scheme forms part of the programme. It aims to support the development of bilingual library services in order to enable libraries in Wales to make a significant contribution to the development of communities in Wales.
The Community Learning Libraries Capital Programme is a programme of capital investment in modernising the public library network. It aims to deliver modern library facilities, fit for the 21st century, in order to attract more people to benefit from an improved range of education and learning opportunities provided by public libraries.
