Cycling Proficiency Training
Gower Labour AM Edwina Hart has welcomed today’s (Wed 25 June) announcement by Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, Jane Davidson AM, for a national cycle training standard across Wales. The aim is to encourage children and young people to take up cycling by improving safety through training.
Edwina Hart AM said:
“Cycling combines healthy exercise while reducing our carbon footprint so is a win-win situation, even more so now, given the increasing cost of petrol.”
“However, it is important that cyclists, whatever their age, keep safe and the opportunity to train for on road cycling is to be welcomed.”
The new money and the partnership with CTC, the UK’s national cyclist’s organisation, will ensure that the Cycle Training and National Standards, already adopted by a small number of local authorities, will be provided across Wales.
