Gower AM Welcomes Grant for Safer Routes

Gower AM Edwina Hart has welcomed the news that Penclawdd Primary School is set to benefit for a grant of £62,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government under the Safe Routes in Communities programme.

The total Transport Grant funding for 2010-11 amounts to £55.389 million and £8.5 million of this year’s grant has been allocated to Safe Routes in Communities projects.

Edwina Hart AM said:

“The initiative, which is now in its third year, has made a real difference in improving accessibility throughout communities across Wales.”

The Welsh Assembly Government’s Transport Grant is paid to local authorities to support the cost of local transport schemes, including infrastructure and rail projects, integrated transport packages, walking and cycling schemes and Safe Routes in Communities projects.

Local authorities bid annually for Transport Grant support in a competitive bidding round.
