Workers Sign Up to Training Support
More than 500 workers in City and County of Swansea have taken advantage of an Assembly Government-funded training scheme during the recession, Gower AM Edwina Hart has revealed.
Latest figures released show 509 workers took advantage of the Welsh Government Redundancy Action Scheme (ReAct) scheme between October 2008 and July 2009.
ReAct, which was introduced by the Welsh Assembly Government, offers employer recruitment and training support as well as recruitment consultancy support to workers who have been made redundant or face redundancy.
Nationally, nearly 8,000 workers across Wales took part in ReAct during the same 10 month period.
Edwina Hart AM said:
"The Welsh Assembly Government is committed to the long-term goal of creating a full employment society in Wales, providing everyone with the opportunity to fulfil their potential through work, study and training."
The scheme provides a subsidy to employers taking on an employee who has been made redundant from a company in Wales in the last six months. This amounts to £2,080 plus 70% of training support for each individual employed up to a maximum of £1,000.
Further information is available through the ReAct helpline number (01792 765888), from local Careers Wales offices or from learndirect on 0800 100 900.
