Gower AM Backs Llanmorlais
Gower Labour AM Edwina Hart is continuing to support the Llanmorlais Primary School campaign to save the school from closure following the Local Education Authority’s decision to recommend closure.
Edwina Hart said:
‘Llanmorlais Primary School is a much loved school at the heart of the community, a place it has held for over 115 years; a caring, supportive school, where pupils have a very positive attitude towards their work. The school is part of the North Gower Partnership of primary schools that feed Gowerton Comprehensive School. It works well with its network partners pursuing common goals, sharing good practice with the aim of driving up performance for the benefit of its pupils and the development of its staff. It also benefits from access to some excellent community facilities.’
The Llanmorlais Primary Action Group and the School Governors have both presented detailed reports to the LEA setting out their opposition to the school closure. The proposal to issue a Statutory Notice of Closure and transfer pupils to Penclawdd Primary School is due to go before the City and County of Swansea Cabinet this Wednesday (3 June).
Mrs Hart added:
‘I have received telephone calls and e-mails from worried parents and community representatives keen to ensure that local children can continue to benefit from attending their school. I have been asked to lend our support to the campaign and do so unreservedly.’
