Gower AM Urges over 65s to Grab a Flu Jab

Gower Labour AM Edwina Hart has joined Health Minister Lesley Griffiths in encouraging eligible people to have their flu injections early this year to make sure they guard against a nasty bout of flu.

 Mrs Hart said:

“A bout of flu can knock anyone for six but fit and healthy people recover quickly.  However, older people, especially if their general health is not robust, can be very badly affected. “

 She added:

"The flu jabs are available to those over 65 as well as to younger people at risk because of other medical conditions.  I do hope all those who are eligible will book an appointment with their GPs sooner rather than later because flu is largely preventable through this routine vaccination."

Pregnant women, health professionals and paid or unpaid carers of physically vulnerable people are also encouraged to get vaccinated.

 Notes:

People in the "at risk" category include those with a chronic heart or chest complaint, including asthma, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, lowered immunity due to disease or treatment, such as steroid medication or cancer treatment, or other serious medical conditions.  People should check with their GP if they are unsure if they qualify.
